"If the amendment doesn’t pass, it doesn’t mean that same sex-marriage will become legal – it just means that the constitution won’t be amended to specifically ban it."

"the amendment has no direct potential to legalize same-sex marriage, and even if it did, allowing same-sex couples access to civil marriage licenses poses no threat to “traditional” marriage or children."

"voting AGAINST leaves the law, regarding marriage, in this state status quo"

Background: What does this vote really mean?

Same-sex marriage has always been illegal in Minnesota. But this November, Minnesotans will vote on whether or not to change their state constitution to ban same-sex marriage. If the amendment passes, same-sex marriage will be much more difficult to ever achieve in Minnesota. If the amendment doesn’t pass, it doesn’t mean that same sex-marriage will become legal – it just means that the constitution won’t be amended to specifically ban it.

As has happened in other states, supporters of the amendment are distorting the issue to be about protecting “traditional” marriage and children, when in fact, the amendment has no direct potential to legalize same-sex marriage, and even if it did, allowing same-sex couples access to civil marriage licenses poses no threat to “traditional” marriage or children.

This amendment allows our government to decide Minnesotan’s individual freedoms and relationship rights.  The constitutions function is to protect the rights for ALL – ensuring Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The constitution shouldn’t be limiting anyone’s freedom.
